Leshen |
---|
The leshen is the Polish god of the forest. It premiered in episode 13, Leshen a.k.a. It Rhymes With Bum Socks
Description
The leshen, or leshy, is a God from Slavic mythology, it rules over the forest and hunting. It is usually depicted male, and usually about the size of a human, however, it can assume any likeness and change size and height. It is sometimes portrayed with horns and sometimes surrounded by packs of wolves and bears. Sometimes portrayed with both! He has the ability to summon crows for the purpose of distraction or harassment. He likes to lead travelers and children away, so he isn't a very kind god, and usually portrayed as an evil god. Most of the time, however, he is depicted as neutral towards humans depending on how they treat the forest.
Other Versions
The leshen has been called many different things over his many years on this earth. Some Russian names for him are Borovoi, meaning "he of the forest," and Gayevoi, meaning "he of the grove." Other cultures have similar deities, such as Haitian culture, which refer to it as the Grand Bois, and is associated with trees, plants, and herbs (heh). The Mayan culture has a version of the leshen called Yum Kaax (it rhymes with "Bum Socks"), which has been portrayed helping farmers with their fields and helping hunters hunt.
Abilities
The leshen can dig its root-like arms into the ground to attack from below with relatively indefinite range. It is described as "heavy damage." It can summon wolves and/or bears to fight alongside it, but wouldn't typically do this if it didn't have to since it likes protected the forest and its creatures. It can teleport, but only within the forest.
It is weak to Dimeritium bombs, relict oil, the igni sign, and the number 13. (Happy 13 episodes guys!) When the leshen dies, it drops leshen resin, leshen mutagen, monster bone, and fiber, all great things to get.
Tale
At the heart of the forest lies a secret. In a place born of darkness and primeval nature, resides a mighty and terrifying guardian. Immune to human steel, it is believed the leshen is nature's way of protecting the forest and the animals that live within it from the threat humans started to pose upon their ravaging expansion deeper into the lands.
