Medusa
Artist depiction of what Medusa probably looks like, since anyone who would have seen this would have been turned to stone.

Medusa is a Gorgon from Greek mythology, and the world's most famous snake haired creature. It premiered in episode 10, Medusa a.k.a. Hard Rock Abs.

Description

Medusa was once incredibly beautiful, enough to launch a thousand or so ships, and based on a children's book, it was because she was vain about her beauty that Poseidon punished her and stripped her of her beauty, giving her snakes for hair, probably vipers, and making her so ugly that anyone who looks her in the eyes is turned to stone. Much more darkly, it is said that Poseidon had raped her in Athena's temple due to her beauty, and then Athena punished her and turned her by stripping her of her beauty.

Medusa was killed by Perseus by beheading, who was given extra prestiged armor and weapons by other gods, including but probably not limited to: A mirrored shield from Athena, Winged Sandals from Hermes, The Sword from Hephaestus, and Hades's Helm of Invisibility. Perseus kept Medusa's head which kept the ability to turn people to stone, and gave it to another person who, well, long story short, that's why there's a bunch of rocks...also, her head was bleeding after decapitation, the blood turned to snakes, and that's why there's a bunch of snakes...

At Medusa's death, due to being pregnant two children sprung from her neck, Chrysaor the dinosaur (not really, he was human), and Pegasus (yes the winged horse, because that totally makes sense).

Abilities

She has venomous snakes for hair that can act on their own accord. She can also turn people to stone when she meets someone's gaze.

Tale

She was once most beautiful, and the jealous aspiration of many suitors. Of all her beauties, none was admired more than her hair: I came across a man who recalled having seen her. They say that Poseidon, lord of the seas, violated her in the temple of Minerva. So that it might not go unpunished, Minerva changed the Gorgon's hair to foul snakes. And now, to terrify her enemies, numbing them with fear, the goddess wears the snakes, that she created, as a breastplate.
